Sparks, Cores & the Modifier System
Sparks
Sparks are consumable items used to enhance your equipment with modifiers. Each Spark has:
- A Type — one of 11 modifier types (see below)
- A Rarity — from Common to Warped, affecting the modifier’s potency
When you apply a Spark to a weapon or piece of armour, it adds (or strengthens) a modifier of that type on the item.
Modifier Types
| Category | Modifier | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Damage | Light | Adds energy-based damage |
| Damage | Gravity | Adds gravity-warping damage |
| Damage | Armour Piercing | Adds penetrating damage |
| Damage | Kinetic | Adds physical impact damage |
| Damage | Void | Adds void/entropy damage |
| Stat | STR (Strength) | Increases physical power |
| Stat | DEX (Dexterity) | Increases precision and agility |
| Stat | INT (Intelligence) | Increases mental/psionic power |
| Stat | CON (Constitution) | Increases durability and health |
| Stat | Speed | Increases movement and action speed |
| Stat | Dodge | Increases evasion chance |
Item Potential
Every item has a potential value — the ceiling for how much it can be enhanced. Each time you successfully apply a Spark, the modifier’s potential on that item increases. Items with higher base potential (boosted by Factories) can accept more powerful modifications.
Artifractal Cores
Artifractal Cores are consumable items used to unlock new equipment. When you use a Core:
- You choose the item type and subtype you want (e.g., Head armour, Rifle, Ship Cannon)
- The system generates a random item of that type
- The Core’s rarity affects the quality of the result
- The item’s potential is influenced by how many Factories of that type exist in the system
Cores come in all six rarity tiers, with higher-rarity Cores producing better results.
